While in Vegas, I visited Hoover Dam. It was completed by the Six Companies Inc., in May of 1935, four years and 354 days after the start-a year ahead of schedule and at a cost of $175,000,000. The dam contains 4,360,000 yards of concrete, is 727 feet high, 660 feet thick at the base and contains 35,000 tons of reinforcing steel. Hoover Dam was-and still is-an engineering triumph that has attracted nearly 25 million visitors since its completion.
